Fort George near Inverness might interest you.


I was in Inverness 2 nights but did not get to Fort George (but it was on my list). Inverness is such a great city to wander. Lots of walking paths along the Ness River. I did stop in the Old High Church and it has a lot of history (see link).

Also, lots of military history in/around Edinburgh. I loved touring Edinburgh Castle.

As far as pure military history, you would probably like Fort George.
